English Women’s Premier Begins with Several Canadians in Rosters – More Arriving
The Allianz Premier 15 league kicked off last weekend. There are 10 teams in the league, a number of them familiar to followers of the men’s English Premiership: Exeter, Harlequins, Sale, Worcester, Saracens, Bristol and Wasps. There’s also Loughborough, Gloucester-Hartpury and Darlington Mowden Park (DMP).
In Week 1 there were 5 Canadians we counted in the rosters and one UK player who played in the BC Premier last year. We’ve also heard that Sophie de Goede has landed a contract with Saracens and is now in the UK.
Early indications are that DMP (Darlington Mowden Park) Sharks are a little out of their depth, being beaten 103-0 by the Harlequins but other teams seem to be competitive. The Bristol v Wasps match from Week 1 was postponed due to a COVID positive result.
Canadian players from Week 1 (roster number):
Exeter – Emily Tuttosi (2), McKinley Hunt (5), Taylor Black (10)
Loughborough – Courtney Holtkamp (4), Sara Svoboda (20)
BC Premier player (Westshore) from Week 1:
Worcester – Caity Mattinson (21)
Results Week 1:
Gloucester-Hartpury 34 – 14 Exeter
Harlequins 103 – 0 DMP Durham Sharks
Sale Sharks 7 – 29 Loughborough Lightning
Saracens 34 – 25 Worcester Warriors
