Finals Results at Global Youth 7s: BC Bears Girls Finish 17th, Boys 19/20; MacDowell Academy Girls Finish 21st Place, Boys 32nd
The BC Bears boys won their Bowl quarter-final over Belmont Shore from California, 19-7 but lost the semi-finals to Saracens 33-5. Saracens would go on to win the Bowl final and claim 17th place. That would put the boys ranking as 19/20 place at the tournament. The boys tournament was won by the Australia U18 team.
The BC Bears girls won their day 3 matches vs NZ Maori 34-7 and NZ Barbarians 26-17 to finish top of the 17-24 bracket and claim 17the place. Japan won the girls competition defeating Australia U18.
The MacDowell Academy girls won their day 3 match against Brothers 14-12 which means they finished top of the 21 to 23 bracket and 21st place. The boys lost their first day 3 match to Nukuvuto Blues 31-0, their second match to Maui 26-14 and then the 31/32 match versus Cook Island 32-0 to finish in 32nd place.
Day 2 Results BC Girls in 17-20 Playoffs, BC Boys in 17-24 Playoffs; MacDowell Girls in 21-23 Playoffs, MacDowell Boys in 25-32 Playoffs
On Day 2 BC just missed out on the top 16 competition, the girls lost to NZ based Rugby Vault 31-24 in Round 3 of pool play. That put them in the 17-20 playoff competition and they won their first match in that round 12-7 over Cook Islands. They’ll face NZ Maori and NZ Barbarians on Day 3 to determine the final placement in that four team competition. The BC boys lost to NZ Fijians in their final pool round 28-26, that result knocked them out of the top 16, they defeated Nukuvuto Blues 31-0 in the 17-32 round. That win puts them in the 17-24 quarter-finals against California’s Belmont Shore team on Day 3.
The MacDowell girls lost their final pool match 19-12 to NZ Maori. That put them in the 21-23 playoff bracket and they won their first match there 21-20 over Hibiscus Coast. They’ll get one more game on Day 3 vs the winner of Brothers vs Hibiscus Coast. The MacDowell boys lost their final pool match 24-10 to the Australian Raptors, they then lost to Belmont Shore 24-5 in the 17-32 round. They’ll face Nukuvuto Blues in the 25-32 quarter-finals.

Day One Results for BC Teams: BC Bears 2-2; MacDowell Academy 0-4
The BC teams found the competition level high as they kicked off Day 1. The BC Bears had to take on the Australia national team and were no match as they failed to score against, perhaps, the top team in the competition. In their 2nd match however they found the going easier, the girls defeating the NZ Barbarians and the boys defeated Eden a NZ based school.
MacDowell had a hard draw as well, the girls losing to the USA national team and then a strong Fijian team called New Edition. The boys lost to a south island Maori side and then also the Fijian New Edition side.
On Day 2 the BC Bears have a chance to make the cup competition if they win their final pool matches, the girls facing a NZ based team, Rugby Vault, and the boys facing the NZ Fijians. MacDowell girls play NZ Maori and the boys meet Australian Raptors.

Global Youth Sevens Kicks Off Today at Noon PT – MacDowell vs USA and BC vs Australia
The Global Youth 7s kicks off today at noon PT and there’s 4 Canadian teams to watch, the MacDowell Rugby Academy boys and girls and the BC Bears boys and girls. It’s a high level competition and on Day 1 MacDowell faces USA in their first match in the girls division and BC faces Australia. In the boys division MacDowell will face Canterbury Maori and it BC will again take on Australia.

Four BC Based Teams Entered in Global Youth Sevens in Auckland
There are four BC based teams entered into the prestigious Global Youth Sevens tournament in Auckland, running December 13 to 15.
The BCRU are entering two U18 teams, boys and girls. The MacDowell Rugby Academy, which operates out of several western academies including Vancouver Island, are also entering two U18 teams, boys and girls.
