HSBC SVNS – Bordeaux 2026

Canada Finish in 3rd Place at Bordeaux and 3rd in Championship Series – Charity Williams Scores 10 Tournament Tries

Canada claimed 3rd place in the tournament in Bordeaux and in the process caught USA in the standings and claimed 3rd place overall in the championship standings. Australia won the women’s tournament and series, NZ came 2nd, USA 4th. In the men’s tournament France won the tournament but South Africa won the series.

Charity Williams scored 10 tries in the tournament which puts her at, according to my calculations, 32 for the season which is Canada’s top try scorer this season. In France SVNS tournaments Bianca Farella had 19 tries overall, Ghislaine Landry had 17 and Charity Williams had 14. Adding 10 this tournament puts Williams at the top of that record for Canadian players. Overall in SVNS history Bianca Farella had 168 tries, Ghislaine Landry 143, Charity Williams 125, now 135 so if Williams plays another season she’ll surpass Landry and close the gap on Farella.

Canada in Final Four Going into Day 3: Savannah Bauder Scores 3 Tries vs Fiji in Quarter-Finals

Canada lost their final pool match against USA but it gave them a better quarter-final matchup, Fiji instead of France. Canada defeated Fiji in strong fashion with Savannah Bauder scoring the hat trick, USA narrowly got by France. The semis sees Canada v NZ and USA v Australia. The quarter-final results mean Canada will break the 4th place tie with France and finish the season in 4th place. If Canada defeat NZ and Australia defeat USA there is the possibility that the USA and Canada could be tied in points for 3rd place.

Canada 29 – Fiji 14

Scorers: Savannah Bauder (3T, 2C), Carmen Izyk (1T), Pamphinette Buisa (1T)

Canada 22 – USA 33

Canada 2-0 in Pool Round – Face USA in Final Pool Match on Saturday

Canada opened with a narrow win over Spain 14-12, and then followed up with a more comfortable win over Great Britain 35-14. They’ll face USA in the final pool match at 4:10am PT on Saturday to determine who finishes top of the pool and who is runner up. The top of the pool will likely face France in the quarter final, the runner up will likely face either Fiji or Japan in the quarter final. Charity Williams has carried the majority of the scoring so far, claiming 4 tries, Asia Hogan-Rochester has 2 tries.

Canada’s Women’s Sevens Team will welcome four new players into the squad for their final HSBC SVNS Series tournament of the season, the third and final leg of the HSBC SVNS World Championship in Bordeaux, France, from June 5–7.

Olympians Fancy Bermudez, Pamphinette Buisa, and Chloe Daniels will join Canada’s roster for the final stop of the HSBC SVNS season, looking to help the team improve on back-to-back fourth place finishes in the opening two legs of the HSBC SVNS World Championship. Larah Wright, who last weekend played with Canada’s Women’s ‘Next Gen’ Sevens Team at the EAAST 7s tournament in France also joins the squad for Bordeaux.

Piper Logan, Alysha Corrigan, and Olivia Apps are the three players who were part of Canada’s squad at HSBC SVNS Valladolid but will not be available for Bordeaux. As part of a plan established prior to the final two SVNS tournaments in Europe, Apps and Corrigan will return to their Premiership Women’s Rugby (PWR) club, Saracens, for the team’s final regular season match before the playoffs.

Logan, who suffered an injury on the opening day in Valladolid, has been ruled out of the Bordeaux tournament.

“We are excited to welcome Chloe, Fancy and Pamphinette back into the environment next week to help us continue to build on our performances,” said Head Coach Jocelyn Barrieau. “We are happy with the performances that Olivia Apps and Alysha Corrigan put in. Their leadership and guidance are very important for our team.”
