Jake Thiel Announced as 18th Signing for Vancouver Highlanders
Jake Thiel has been named as the 18th Vancouver Highlanders signing. Although mostly known for his play on the World Rugby 7s series, Jake was the starting #8 for Canada U20 in 2017 and may again be in contention to claim that spot for the senior men’s XVs. Just turning 27 he’s in his prime for the XVs game.
Jake is best known for his 7s career, representing Canada on the World Rugby 7s series since 2017/18. He’s played 160 matches and scored 30 tries over that time period. He was on the non-travelling reserves for the La Vila tournament last year and has impressed when he suited up for the Pacific Pride in recent years.
The Rugby Canada website summarizes his rugby background:
- Played through Canada’s age-grade program (U-17/18/19/20 & Pacific Pride).
- Son of Jon Thiel and Jen Ross, former Senior National 15s players who combined represented Canada at four Rugby World Cups.
- Played at World Rugby U20 Trophy (15s)
