MLR Week 2 Results & Canadian Highlights: Houston Leads West; New Orleans Leads East

There were 18 Canadian players starting in Week 2 and 13 in the reserves, for a total 31 dressing on game day. That was down 5 from Week 1 where 36 of the 46 Canada-eligible players were in action. Ben Lesage and Andrew Quattrin scored tries for the second week in a row for New England, Shane O’Leary had the top stat for running metres for Miami in their match, Matt Heaton was top of the tackle stats for LA in their match.

Old Glory 35 – New England 34

Old Glory get the upset win over last year’s champions. For Old Glory Tyler Rowland started at tighthead prop, and Gradyn Bowd started at fullback, a shift from his #10 position last week. In the reserves for Old Glory was Cali Martinez at #18. For New England Andrew Quattrin was starting hooker, Josh Larsen and Kyle Baillie second row, Ben Lesage outside centre. In the reserves for New England were Foster Dewitt, Cole Keith, Piers von Dadelszen, Isaac Olson. Not dressing were Conor Keys, Ethan Fryer, Gabe Casey, Cameron Nordli-Kelemeti. Andrew Quattrin and Ben Lesage scored tries in the match

New Orleans 34 – Anthem 19

Callum Botchar, the only Canadian NOLA  player, didn’t dress for the match. Anthem has one Canada eligible player, Logan Weidner, and he started at lock.

Utah 29 – Chicago 15

Utah had Emerson Prior in the reserves at #17 and Rob Povey at #23. Not dressing were Tyler Wong, Sam Reimer, Noah Bain, Spencer Jones. Chicago had Mason Flesch and Lucas Rumball as flankers, and Jason Higgins in the reserves at #22.

Seattle 29 – Miami 18

Reid Davis was in the reserves for Seattle at #19. For Miami Shane O’Leary started at fullback, Guiseppe du Toit was in the reserves at #22, not dressing was Avery Oitomen. Shane O’Leary had the most running metres for Miami, with 99 metres.

San Diego 30 – Dallas 23

Dallas had Liam Murray at loosehead prop and Dewald Kotze at hooker, Mitch Richardson was outside centre and Nic Benn was on the wing. On the bench were Kyle Steeves #18 and Brock Gallagher #21. Not dressing was Karl Hunger. San Diego had Blair Cowan at flanker, not dressing was Djustice Sears-Duru.

Houston 27 – LA 12

Houston don’t have any Canada eligible players in the roster. LA had Conor Young at loosehead prop, Matt Heaton at openside flanker, Jack Shaw and Andrew Coe on the wings. Reegan O’Gorman was in the reserves at #19. Not dressing were Connor Grindal and Seth Purdey. Matt Heaton topped the tackle count for LA with 18 tackles.
