Final Week of MLR Regular Season Wraps Up with 29 Canadian Players in Action: Three Teams Eliminated, Playoffs Start Next Week

This was the final week of the regular season. It had the most Canadian players in action this season with 17 starters and 12 in the reserves. Next weekend the playoffs start, in the West #1 Utah hosts #4 Seattle and #2 Houston hosts #3 LA. In the East #1 New England will host #4 Miami and #2 Chicago will host #3 Old Glory.

There are 3 teams out of the playoffs, San Diego, NOLA, Anthem, they only had 6 Canada-eligible players amongst them. Canada’s first match this summer is only a month away, July 12th vs Belgium.

Chicago 15 – Houston 12

A rare Wednesday match. Chicago had Mason Flesch at #6, Matt Oworu at #8, in the reserves Lucas Rumball #20 and Noah Flesch #23. Houston has no Canadian players. Matt Oworu picked up a yellow at 40′. Lucas Rumball subbed on at 46′. Noah Flesch subbed on at 69′.

NOLA 17 – New England 21

NOLA had Callum Botchar at lock, Cooper Coats at fullback. New England had Foster Dewitt at hooker, Conor Keys at lock, Piers von Dadelszen at #6, Ben Lesage at outside centre, Brock Webster at fullback. In the reserves were Kyle Steeves #18, Josh Larsen #19, Ethan Fryer #20, Cameron Nordli-Kelemeti #21 and Josiah Morra #23. Morra obviously ending his loan period to the Miami Sharks. Cooper Coats scored a try at 2′ and 62′ and converted his try at 63′. Josiah Morrah subbed on at 22′. Brock Webster scored a try at 29′. Ethan Fryer subbed on at 46′. Kyle Steeves subbed on at 50′. Callum Botchar subbed off at 50′. Josh Larsen subbed on at 53′. Foster Dewitt subbed off at 53′.  Cameron Nordli-Kelemeti subbed on at 60′. Ben Lesage subbed off at 70′. Kyle Steeves subbed off at 76′.

Utah 48 – LA 33

Utah had Spencer Jones at inside centre and Nic Benn on the wing. In the reserves were Emerson Prior #17 and Reid Davis #20.  LA had Matt Heaton at openside flanker and Seth Purdey and Andrew Coe on the wings. Reegan O’Gorman #19 was in the reserves. Nic Benn subbed off at 25′ and was back on at 33′. Matt Heaton subbed off at 42′. Reid Davis subbed on at 49′. Andrew Coe subbed off at 57′. Reegan O’Gorman subbed on at 60′. Emerson Prior subbed on at 60′. Seth Purdey subbed off at 67′. Spencer Jones scored a try at 80′.

San Diego 50 – Old Glory 5

San Diego didn’t have any Canadian players. Old Glory had Cali Martinez at loosehead prop, and Logan Weidner #20 in the reserves.  Cali Martinez subbed off at 56′. Logan Weidner subbed on at 60′.

Houston 26 – Anthem 14

No Canadian players in the match.

Seattle 42 – Miami 17

Seattle had Dewald Kotze at starting hooker and Jesse Mackail as the reserve hooker. Miami had Guiseppe du Toit as starting inside centre. Jesse Mackail replaced Dewalf Kotze at 68′.
