Ollie Nott is a good choice for Highlander #1. He’s played representative rugby in BC from the U16 level up, has represented Canada at the U20 and Senior level, has played in the MLR and at 28 he still has a lot of rugby ahead of him, at least one more World Cup.
Ollie is a versatile player, he can play any of the loose forward positions, plus in the centres.
We first started covering Ollie’s rugby career in 2011 when he helped Vancouver Island win the Provincial Regional Championships at the U16 level. He was from a small community north of Nanaimo called Qualicum Beach.
In 2012 and 2013 we watched him represent BC at the Victoria 7s in the U18 division. It was always an epic final game between BC and Ontario, playing for BC were players like Theo Sauder, Ollie Nott and Harjun Gill and for Ontario Andrew Coe and Lucas Rumball.
In 2015 he helped the Canada U20 side achieve one of their best finishes at the JWRT. They came second losing to Georgia in the final, it was the last time Canada finished ahead of Uruguay at the U20 level. 2015 was the year notable players such as Lucas Rumball, Andrew Coe, Theo Sauder, Phil Berna, Guiseppe du Toit, Ollie Nott, Luke Bradley, Adrian Wadden, Paul Ciulini, Matt Tierney played for Canada U20.
He went to UVic and played for the Vikes during his university career. In 2015 he represented the Maple Leaf team at the Dubai 7s and helped UVic win the University 7s title over rivals UBC.
He played for Canada A on their 2016 tour to the UK and was in the BC Bears roster that played England Counties. He was our first MVP hoodie winner of 2016 while playing for the Vikes.
He was capped for Canada in 2017 playing against USA and Chile. He was a member of the BC Bears in 2018 in the Canadian Rugby Championship. He was with the Pacific Pride for the 2019-20 season after coming out of the UVic program.
He played for the California based Rhinos in the World Tens Championship in 2020, for the Crimson Tide in the Coastal Cup in 2021. He was a member of the Toronto Arrows in the MLR in 2021 and 2022. He currently plays for Castaway Wanderers in the BC Premier competition.
Ollie Nott represents an international level player who has come up through youth programs in BC, a fitting model for Highlander #1.
