Canada Finish Tied for Last in Singapore: Vancouver Pool C Canada, South Africa, Australia, Spain – Match Videos
Canada ran out to their worst result this season finishing last, tied with Scotland for 15th/16th place. They receive only one series point. Fiji won the tournament defeating NZ in the final.
The result drops Canada to 14th place, 3 points above Japan who are in 15th place, the relegation position. It’s unclear if there will be relegation this season as a number of teams have missed tournaments due to COVID, notably NZ, Fiji, and Samoa.
Canada are in Pool C in Vancouver next week with Australia, South Africa and Spain.
There was one bright spot for Canada, that was the play of D’Shawn Bowen, he received limited playing time and only got one start but he’s one of the few players able to create a try out of nothing, as the video below shows.

*Sevens Series Resumes Next Weekend in Singapore: Canada Name Roster*
The World Rugby Sevens Series resumes next weekend, April 9th and 10th. Five years ago Canada won their first World Series tournament at Singapore with Damian McGrath as head coach. They defeated rivals USA in the final.
It’s a much changed side with only Josiah Morra in the current 7s squad, but out of this tournament due to injury/illness.
Canada will again face USA, but in the pool round, along with series leaders South Africa and Kenya. It’s not an easy pool to advance to the quarter-finals.
D’Shawn Bowen comes in from the Pacific Pride program, and Brock Webster comes back in after a stint with the Arrows of the MLR.
On a peripheral note, it’s the first 7s tournament for the new Rugby Canada Manager of Communications, Oliver Wheeler, who started in March. Rugby Canada haven’t had a long term Manager of Communications since Bryan Kelly left. Welcome and all the best. An interesting side note is that he was previously with the Toronto Wolfpack on a contract basis from 2018-2019 and more recently with Tennis Canada.

April 1, 2022 (Langford, BC) As Canadas Senior Mens Sevens team prepares to hit the road for the HSBC Singapore Sevens (April 9-10), Head Coach Henry Paul has confirmed his 13-man roster, presented by Velocity Trade, for the event.
?Back in the squad for the first time since the 2020 Los Angeles Sevens, David Richard makes his much-anticipated return from injury. Meanwhile, 21-year-old Brock Webster comes back into the fray after being unavailable for the Spain Sevens in January and following a stint with Major League Rugbys Toronto Arrows.
Brennig Prevost, Lachlan Kratz and Jarvis Dashkewytch are also back in the roster after missing the Malaga and Seville events, while DShawn Bowen who was with the Pacific Pride during the Spain Sevens – makes the squad with an opportunity to build on his debut in Dubai last year. Phil Berna will captain the side.
We are really happy to have some key players back from injury for the upcoming Singapore Sevens, Paul said. We have a strong roster, which includes some younger, up-and-coming players who will continue to gain vital experience. All the players are looking forward to competing and for the opportunity to showcase their skills at the highest level.
Following the Singapore Sevens, Pauls side will return home for the HSBC Canada Sevens at BC Place in Vancouver, BC. Tickets, with limited availability in some categories, can be purchased here.
