Talon McMullin has been named as the 10th Vancouver Highlanders signing. He joins his brother Takoda who was the 4th signing for the Highlanders.

The brothers share a common history in rugby, both were members of the UBC team that won the 2023 University Championship, Talon made the 1st XV as inside centre, his brother Takoda made the list at outside centre. It was the same configuration for UBC during the Coastal Cup in the fall of 2023.

Both brothers were named to the Canada long list for the summer tour to Tonga, but neither were selected for the trip.

In 2022 both brothers were on the UBC championship team at the Canadian University Championships, UBC’s 4th title in 5 years. Takoda made the 1st team All Stars that year, Talon didn’t make the list.

The brothers made the Canada ‘A’ squad that travelled to South America in the fall of 2022. They were in the reserves in the Brazil match and came on to replace Gabe Casey and Alex Russell in the centres.

Talon played for Canada U20 in the summer of 2022. He was starting inside centre, Liam Bowman was outside centre. Our tournament summary included this observation, “Who are the players to watch as they progress to senior levels. Talon McMullin at #12 was probably the MVP of the tournament for Canada. He’s as big as some of the forwards, he has the size and physicality to make it at the senior level. When he had the ball, good things happened. “

Talon was on that 2022 Canada West team that dominated the Coast to Coast Cup defeating both the Arrows Academy and Atlantic Selects by 50 and 53 points respectively. He started at wing and was moved to inside centre as the series progressed. The team also defeated the American Raptors 40-17.

In 2020 he played on the Valley U18 7s team in the Western Championship along with brother Takoda. He was also on the Canada U20 long list for the Canada tour to Portugal. He played on the Canada U18 team that travelled to California in January 2020, along with brother Takoda.

In 2019 the brothers were part of the Canadian Misfits team that travelled to NZ for the World School 7s. Also that year they represented BC U19 in the Western Canadian Championships.
