UVic finished 2nd in the 2023 Coastal Cup behind the Pacific Pride. They ended with a 3-2 record, defeating TWU twice, UBC once and losing to the Pride twice. They open up at home on Saturday against the Pacific Pride.

In a game strewn with errors, the USA outscored Canada 4 tries to 2 to win 28-15. The USA were ahead by 10 at the half 18-8 and extended that lead by 3 in an even second half.
Fancy Bermudez was the latest Canadian to be signed to a contract in the Allianz Premier, the top women’s competition in England. Fancy will play with the Saracens. Announced prior to that was Krissy Scurfield moving to the Loughborough Lightning and Gabby Senft going to Saracens.
The 2024-25 BC rugby season kicks off Saturday September 7th in Coastal Cup, Dunbar Keg, CanWest competitions; September 21st in Men’s Div 1, 2 and 3; September 28th in Men’s and Women’s Premier, Women’s Div 1 and Div 2.
Canada were caught unprepared by the pace of the Japanese game in the first 30 minutes and were down 38-0. It was a combination of a high tempo game by Japan and some sloppy tackling by Canada in the first 30 that let Japan score 5 unanswered tries.
The Westshore 7s wrapped up on Saturday with Westshore winning the men’s title, Thunder Indigenous winning the women’s title and the boys U18 title. JBAA won the girls U18 title, Abbotsford won the girls U16 title and CW won the boys U16 title.
With Sunday’s game between Canada and Japan at BC Place we did some digging on previous matches between the two teams going back to 1932 and the first Canadian rugby tour to Japan.
The Terrace Northmen won the Saratoga Cup awarded to the top team in the summer league with representatives from the Okanagan, Kootenay and Interior regions. Terrace won both the men’s XVs title and the women’s 7s title.
