It was a rainy day at Starlight Stadium in Langford. Due to the late start at 3:45pm the 2nd half of the match was played in the dark under the lights, rain and dark, not a photographers friend. With the camera ISO cranked up the photos were grainy but this is what I captured.
The women started Day 2 with a quarter-final win over Ireland 14-12, scoring for Canada were Charity Williams and Krissy Scurfield, Chloe Daniels kicked both conversions.
The BC Rugby leagues have shut down for the winter break but there is rugby to watch both locally and online this weekend. The 7s Series kicks off in Dubai, the Mexico 7s U19 tournament starts on Saturday, locally there’s the Pacific Pride vs Seattle at Starlight Stadium on Saturday and on Sunday the Provincial Youth Club Championships at UBC.
It was shocking news for the Canadian rugby community, in particular MLR fans and Arrows supporters, as both the Arrows and MLR announced they won’t participate in the 2024 MLR season. The MLR went even further announcing the “Toronto Arrows will cease operations, effectively immediately”.

It’s the last weekend of action in BC Premier before the winter break. The Lomas go into the break as the only undefeated team sporting a 6-0 record and a +255 point differential.
The Tier 2 competition to gain promotion to the World Rugby 7s series has been announced along with the qualifying teams. Canada are in the Tier 1 competition but if either the men or women finish in places 9 to 12 at the end of the season, they’ll have to compete against the top 4 from this group in an 8 team tournament, the top 4 earning their place in the 2025 Tier 1 series.
On another fine fall afternoon the Ravens continued their homestand hosting the Capilanos before a good crowd which was bolstered by players and coaches visiting BC for the university championships being held in Langley at TWU. Among the visitors was Ontario referee Stephen Stothers-Robertson who handled the game well under the watchful eye of assessor Alan “Huddy” Hudson.
MLR have shown a bit about the 2024 season but haven’t released the schedule yet. There are a lot of questions around the U20 program and the JWRT tournament that haven’t been answered yet. There’s word that the U18 program is on the chopping block. MacDowell Rugby announce the girls team heading to the Mexico 7s.
