Rugby Canada is pleased to announce the Hall of Fame class for 2023. Nine Canadian rugby icons will have their distinguished careers celebrated forever as they enter the Rugby Canada Hall of Fame.
The theme of today’s post is men’s high-performance XVs across Canada, touching on the Highlanders in BC, Queen’s in Ontario and the Privateers in Atlantic Canada.
The Australian School Girls won their home tournament with a 27-12 win over the NZ based Rugby Vault team. The BC U18 team lost to the Australian School Girls in the quarter-finals on Day 2, 29-0. The girls division didn’t have a Plate category unlike the boys division, even though there were more girls teams entered.
It was a big improvement for the men, going from 12th in Dubai to 7th in Cape Town. For the women it was a slight step down from 4th in Dubai to 6th in Cape Town.
It is with a heavy heart and great sadness that we announce the passing of Fuku Vikilani. After many days of searching, Fuku was found on Dec 7th.
Rugby Canada released its Strategic Plan for the next 3 years. We’ll provide a review of the plan and for reference we’ve included the previous plan, 2021-23. We’ve also included the NZ Rugby Union Strategy 2025 for comparison purposes.
On a cool, sunny December late afternoon at Thunderbird Stadium the champions from the mainland and the island entertained and engaged their fans in a game worthy of a provincial final. The Ravens came out on top but there was very little between the two teams and but for a slow start by CW there might have been a different result.
The Vancouver Highlanders have been busy, not that it’s obvious as they don’t post news updates on their website yet, or have a media email notification system yet, but a bit of looking on social media channels like Twitter and Linkedin shows they’re making progress!
Four champions were crowned at an action-packed 2023 BC Rugby Age-Grade Club Finals event at UBC’s Thunderbird Stadium on Sunday.
It was a rainy day at Starlight Stadium in Langford. Due to the late start at 3:45pm the 2nd half of the match was played in the dark under the lights, rain and dark, not a photographers friend. With the camera ISO cranked up the photos were grainy but this is what I captured.
