Belmont Win Boys Provincial 7s Title, Queen Margaret’s Win Girls Provincial 7s Title

Belmont won the Boys Provincial 7s title with a 24-14 win over G.P Vanier, Aberdeen Hall placed 3rd. In the Girls Provincial 7s competition it was Queen Margaret’s winning gold, with a 17-15 win over Oak Bay, Claremont claimed bronze. The Island is becoming a high school hot spot for rugby 7s with 5 of the 6 top finishers coming from the Island, the 6th team from the Okanagan.

Belmont is an interesting story as the rugby program is strongly supported by the school football program and that synergy could be a model with a future. Queen Margaret’s is also an interesting story as the headmaster, David Robertson, came over from Shawnigan and brought some rugby expertise with him in Ander Monro, former Canada #10, as deputy headmaster. Also Rob Jones moved over from NZ two years ago and became the girls head coach. Rob hosted us (Thunder Rugby) in NZ in 2023, he was a teacher and rugby coach at Feilding High School where he played a key role in developing the girls’ rugby program there into one of the most successful in the country. It’s a small rugby world.

On Saturday the XVs wraps up and we’ll post those details on Saturday evening. Scroll down below for all the links to the live stream and schedules.
