BC Rugby Weekend of February 28th 2026

BC Premier Week 15 Results: Ravens Edge Capilano, Westshore Thump CW, UVic Lose to JBAA, UBC Pummel Meraloma – Women’s Premier Burnaby Defeat Abbotsford, Westshore Overcome CW, Ravens Fall to Meraloma

Week 15 has wrapped with most teams only having 3 matches left in the regular season. Next weekend is the Vancouver 7s so there will be a break in the action before Week 16 resumes on March 14th. Ravens maintain their lead at the top, Westshore and UBC remain in a battle chasing 2nd place and a quarter-final bye. Capilano and James Bay remain in 4th and 5th place respectively and Burnaby reclaim 6th place with UVic having work to do in order to make the post season. In women’s Premier Westshore closed the gap on 1st place Lomas while CW dropped to 5th and Burnaby rose to 3rd with very little separating the top 5 teams.

Capilano 17 v UBCOB Ravens 24 @ 14:30
Referee: Chris Assmus AR1: Benjamin Lambrick AR2: Chris Edge
Venue: Klahanie Park

A close game and a bonus point loss for the Caps. Ravens remain top of the standings, after the break they’ll host CW on March 21st, then visit Westshore and UVic to close out the regular season. Capilano play next on March 14th hosting UVic, then close out against UBC, JBAA and Westshore.

PREGAME

#4 hosting #1. The Ravens on a 5 game winning streak including two close wins over #3 UBC. Caps coming off a win over UVic but lost to JBAA the week before, they currently are tied with UBC for 3rd/4th.

Ravens missing Josh Tweed in the front row so Saman Rezapour comes off the bench. Reegan O’Gorman gets his first start at #8 with the Ravens. Jack Carson starts at scrum half and Andrew Coe remains at flyhalf. Josiah Morra not in the roster so David Thompson starts on the wing. Owain Ruttan returns to the match 23. Ravens playing a 6/2 bench expecting a battle in the forwards.

Caps with a 5/3 bench, only one change in the forwards with Flynn Heyes replacing Arthur Greene at blindside flanker. Wade Jansen comes in at flyhalf moving Kyle Lamb to inside centre. Payton Teneycke comes into the roster as reserve tighthead prop, a good addition for them, played at UBC previously, Canada U20 and Vancouver Highlanders.

Ravens as #1 go in as favourites but Caps at home are always tough and if the field conditions are sloppy it may favour a forwards battle where it’s a more even matchup. Prediction: Ravens by +5.

Castaway Wanderers 5 v Westshore 69 @ 14:30
Referee: Derek Horton AR1: Sam Klein-Laufer AR2: David Hale
Venue: Windsor Park

It hasn’t been a great season for CW and they’ll be focused on rebuilding for next season. Westshore retain 2nd place in the table. After the Vancouver 7s and Easter break CW will visit the Ravens then close out against UBC and UVic. Westshore will host the Bays and then Ravens before visiting Capilano.

PREGAME

#10 hosting #2. It hasn’t been CW’s year with only one win, injuries, and now news that head coach Ken Goodland is stepping down after this season. Westshore wanting to maintain that top two ranking to get a bye in the quarter-finals.

Westshore with a strong front row featuring two Canada level players, Emerson Prior and Foster Dewitt. They make one change in the forwards with veteran Admir  Cejvanovic, former Canada player, starting at #8. A shakeup in the backline with Mark Balaski starting at #10, he played flyhalf for the Pacific Pride, the Rugby Canada Academy, and it’s surprising he doesn’t get consistent selection here as he should be considered long listed for national team #10. Three former Kenyan 7s players in the backline and Canada 7s player Rhys James at outside centre. It’s a dangerous looking backline.

CW missing a couple of front row players, Gavin Kratz and Antonio Corbin, last week’s reserves get the start, Akram Nadeem and Mateo Quinonez. John Humphries returns to the roster at second row. AJ Kosempel  is missing from the back three and Yuri Huisaman replaces him at fullback.

Westshore have a strong roster and a potent backline, CW missing a few players, if the field is heavy it may neutralize the Westshore advantage out wide. Prediction: Westshore by +8.

James Bay AA 43 v University Of Victoria 24 @ 14:30
Referee: Cole Pedrick AR1: Dave Holmes AR2: Al Humphries
Venue: James Bay AA- MacDonald Park

James Bay went up quickly 24-0 and UVic played catch up the rest of the match. They closed the gap to 24-12 at the half but the Bays closed the game out for a +19 win. Kudos to the UVic crew for live streaming from James Bay, it’s one thing to stream your home games, it’s next level to stream your opponent’s home game. The stream link is below. The Bays have come on strong in the latter part of the season and now sit a solid 5th place and look assured of a playoff spot. UVic have some work to do if they’re going to make the post season as it will be between them and Burnaby for the 6th spot. The Bays visit Westshore after the break and then Capilano before hosting UBC. UVic will visit Caps, then host Lomas, Burnaby, visit CW and host Ravens. They have 5 matches left, the most in the league, to turn things around.

PREGAME

#5 hosting #6. Burnaby will be watching this match closely, a UVic loss would put Burnaby back in 6th place on a points per match basis. The Bays on a 3 game winning streak, UVic coming off a winning tour to Portugal but they lost their last Premier match to Caps.

The Bays with a stable forward pack but they are missing Callum Botchar this week, Austin Hutchcroft comes off the bench to start in the second row. There are no changes in the backline. Mason Flesch isn’t available off the bench in this match and Carter Haddow takes his spot.

UVic move Brendan Kim from second row to tighthead prop, it’s a move that has been anticipated. He has a lot of potential in the second row but maybe even more at prop, this will be a good test.  That change means Carter Ebrahim moves from flanker to second row and Ronan Smith comes off the bench to start at #8. Cooper Coats is back at #10, although he didn’t have much impact in the loss to Capilano on a soggy pitch.  Josh McIndoe isn’t in the roster and is replaced by Lockhart MacGregor at outside centre.

The Bays are on a roll and have found a stable roster, they are missing Callum Botchar so we’ll see if that has any impact. We’ll see how UVic rebound after a tour to Portugal. Prediction: Bays by +3.

Meraloma 7 v UBC RFC 53 @ 14:30
Referee: Shanda Assmus AR1: Justyn Roberts AR2: Anthony Forth
Venue: Connaught Park

It wasn’t a close match with UBC claiming a +46 win on the road. UBC battling Westshore for that key 2nd place which gets a bye in the quarter-final and a semi-final hosting. They finish off the season hosting the Pride and Capilano, then visiting CW and JBAA. The Lomas finish out against UVic and Burnaby.

PREGAME

#3 hosting #8. The Lomas with the upset win over Westshore last week at home but this will be a bigger task. UBC narrowly lost to #1 Ravens last week but are hitting their form that brought them to the finals last year.

The Lomas are missing Conor O’Brien in the second row, one of their key players. Craig Trimble takes his place. They’re missing both centres from last week and Nathan Booker and Joe Wilde come off the bench to start.

UBC missing #8 Cody Nhanala, one of their best players, Viktor Wozniak is brought into the loose forwards and Liam Kinghorn moves from blindside flanker to #8. In the backline they try a different look with Liam James getting the start at #10 and Caleb Seumanutafa moving to the centres.

Even missing Nhanala, UBC should have enough to get the job done, especially with the Lomas missing 3 starters from last week. Prediction: UBC by +8.

Referee: Saro Turner AR1: Alun Bartlett AR2: Chad Falk
Venue: Exhibition Park

A good result for Abby even though they lost, they scored the most points of their season and stayed within 10 of Burnaby.

PREGAME

Abbotsford are 0-6 and have given up an average of 80 points per match this season as they struggle with the level at Premier. Burnaby are 4-4 and sit in 5th place on a points per match basis.

Burnaby rotating some players from the bench in this match and missing some starters. They still should have enough to claim a comfortable win. Prediction: Burnaby by 20+.

Castaway Wanderers 22 v Westshore 29 @ 12:45
Referee: Juan Pablo Rey AR1: Sam Klein-Laufer AR2: John J De Goede
Venue: Windsor Park

The game delivered as expected with only 7 points between the teams. The top 5 teams Meraloma, Westshore, Burnaby, Thunderbirds, CW are all competitive and only 0.64 ppm separate #1 from #5.

PREGAME

#3 hosting #2. These two teams are evenly matched and just trail the #1 Lomas on a points per match basis. CW coming off two easy wins over Abby and Seattle, Westshore coming off a home and away battle against #1 Lomas, a series they split.

CW weren’t tested last week against Abby but this should be a very competitive match. Only one change to the forwards Marina Skakun starts at second row and Jamie Knaggs goes to the bench. Only one change in the backs with Savannah King getting the start on the wing.

Westshore with one change in the forwards, they’re missing openside flanker Emily Findlay and Brooke Horsfall gets the start. They’ve rotated their backline a bit Vanessa Chiapetta moves from centre to fullback, Emilie Sinclair moves from scrum half to wing and Abby Hall moves from fullback to scrum half. They’re missing Ivy Poetker and Elle Douglas from the bench but have added Miranda Grant and Emerald Maze.

A tough one to call with teams evenly matched. Westshore with the upset of #1 Lomas last week with a similar roster bodes well for them. Prediction: Westshore by +2.

Referee: Phil Webster AR1: Lauren Hancock AR2: Jack Webster (Pending)
Venue: Connaught Park

A close win by the Lomas but not too much can be read into the result as the Ravens had a lot of UBC players in for the match with the Thunderbirds having a bye week.

PREGAME

An exhibition match that won’t count in the standings. No rosters from either team at the time of writing [Updated with rosters]. Ravens got their first win of the season last week against Seattle, Lomas lost to Westshore. Lomas, if they put out a full roster, should get the win. Lomas have put out a strong roster, the Ravens have a number of UBC players in the roster. Prediction: Lomas by +10.
