BC Rugby Wrapup for Weekend of September 16th 2023: Premier Preseason Results; Coastal Cup and Dunbar Keg Results

In the Premier preseason it was Westshore defeating CW 28-17 to take the Gerwing Shield a challenge trophy between the Island teams. They’ll defend it next weekend against James Bay. On the mainland, according to BCRU reported scores, it was Meraloma dominating Ravens 48-7 and Burnaby over Capilano 31-19. Burnaby are 2-0 in the preseason defeating both Capilano and Meraloma. Next weekend sees Burnaby host the Ravens, Lomas hosting the Caps and Westshore hosting the Bays. Those games are scheduled to kickoff at 2:30pm.

In Mainland Div 1 preseason Squamish Axemen and Kamloops look strong, both with a 2-0 record. Squamish defeating the Lomas 76-0, Kamloops defeating Abbotsford 52-19. In other matches the Rowers defeated Bayside 38-17 and Burnaby defeated Capilano 61-0. Kelowna issued a statement saying they’re dropping their men’s Div 1 side, stating player safety and playing numbers as the reasons. Kelowna still have a men’s team in Div 3.

In Island Div 1 preseason it was Nanaimo and Cowichan drawing at 26-26 and UVic outscoring Port Alberni 54-41.

In Women’s Premier preseason it was Capilano over Burnaby 20-17.

In Mainland Women’s Div 1 preseason it was Abbotsford over Kamloops 72-24, Bayside 57-0 over SFU and UBC over Lomas 19-5.

The sole Dunbar Keg U20 match saw the Island Tide defeat Fraser Valley 36-33.

The Coastal Cup, as reported in a separate article, saw the Pride trounce UBC 80-19 and UVic defeat TWU 45-14. The Pride are the only undefeated team in the competition. That competition wraps up October 14th, the same weekend the BC Premier starts. Note: one final Coastal Cup match Oct 28th, Pride host TWU.
