CanWest 7s 2026 – Edmonton

UBC Win 2nd Tournament in Victoria – Poised for 4th Consecutive Series Title with One Tournament Remaining

UBC have all but clinched the CanWest 7s title, it would be their 4th straight title and would match UVic who won 4 titles from 2018 to 2022. There’s one tournament left at UBC in March but with a commanding 6 point lead in the series standings it would not only require UVic to beat UBC but another team to beat UBC as well, unlikely based on current form. Top try scorers in the tournament for UBC Jaime Dickson with 6 tries, Adia Pye,  Kiki Idowu, Piper Logan all with 5 tries. For UVic Ivy Poetker was top try scorer with 8 tries, making her the top tournament try scorer and with 7 tries in the first tournament, she’s leading the series try scoring count at 15. Adia Pye with 9 tries in Edmonton and 5 in Victoria is 2nd with 14 tries overall.

DAY 1 – from CanWest 7s

VICTORIA, B.C. – The University of British Columbia won the second tournament of the Canada West 7s Series, going 5-0, topping it off with an emphatic win over Victoria.

UBC and the University of Victoria met in the final match, with both teams carrying an undefeated record in the second tournament of the season. The Thunderbirds ran up and down the field, capturing the tournament title with a 27-5 win over the hosts.

Trinity Western and Alberta highlighted day two with their hard-fought 19-19 tie. The Pandas surged late, scoring a try in the dying moments of the game. Their clutch kick brought this duel to a draw, the first of the season.

Victoria’s Ivy Poetker added two more tries on day two of the tournament, bringing her weekend total to eight, crowning her the tournament scoring leader.

The six teams will travel to Vancouver for the last stop on the Canada West 7s Series, with action beginning March 6. The Thunderbirds will look to add on to their perfect record as they host the last tournament of the season.

DAY 1 – from CanWest 7s

VICTORIA, B.C. – The University of British Columbia and the University of Victoria led day one, going 3-0 at the second stop in the Canada West 7s series, February 7 at Wallace Field in Victoria.

Trinity Western University, University of Lethbridge, and the University of Alberta followed suit, tallying a 1-2 day. The University of Calgary rounded out the leaderboard with its 0-3 start to the tournament.

Ivy Poetker of the Victoria Vikes led day one in scoring as she found the try zone six times in Victoria’s three wins. Jaime Dickson trailed the leader by only one try as she scored five tries, leading the Thunderbirds’ scoring barrage.

The University of Lethbridge earned its first win of the season, taking down the University of Calgary in a back-and-forth defensive battle. The most exciting game of the day saw the Alberta Pandas’ Kate Alcock thread a game-winning conversion through the uprights to finish off Kaitlin Tetteh-Wayoe’s try, sealing a narrow 12-10 win over Lethbridge.

The five teams will return tomorrow for six more games at Wallace Field to decide who takes home the second tournament title of the Canada West 7s series.
