Vancouver Highlanders Update – May 2024

Vancouver Highlanders Announce Schedule; Two Player Announcements Joe Locke from UBCOB Ravens and Saba Shubitidze from Georgia – Reserve Players Added Liam Kinghorn from Calgary and George Wallin from Capilano

The last update we did on the Highlanders was April 22nd and a few things have happened since then, probably the most significant was the release of the schedule with a venue mentioned, Burnaby Lake Rugby Club. Early betting  money was on Klahanie, the Capilano grounds, being the hosting site but the first three match days have been announced as Burnaby Lake Rugby Club. Next item of interest will be ticket prices and any event info peripheral to the rugby matches themselves. The first date is a double header, Canada Selects and Barbados on Friday, June 28th.

Week 10 Results: 23 Canada-Eligible Players in Action

There were 23 Canada-eligible players in action in Week 10, 11 starting and 12 in reserves. Houston remains in top spot in the West and New England retain top spot in the East.

BC Rugby Weekend of May 4th 2024

BC Premier UBCOB Ravens Crowned 2024 Champions: Results for All Division Finals

It was the final weekend of club rugby in coastal BC with the BC Premier wrapping up as well as seven other divisions. The finals event is hosted at the Burnaby Rugby Club. In Premier it was the top two teams throughout the season, Meraloma and UBCOB Ravens, meeting in the final. The Lomas won the first matchup 34-15 in October, the Ravens won the return match 36-10 in February, both winning at home. The Ravens however claimed the title with a 25-17 win in the final.

Singapore 7s 2024

NZ Win Men’s and Women’s Tournament in Singapore; Canada Women Finish 7th, Canada Men Finish 12th

NZ claimed the double in Singapore winning both men’s and women’s tournaments, Argentina were name league winners on the men’s side with most points accumulated over the season, NZ were league winners on the women’s side. The Canadian women finished 7th with a 17-5 win over Great Britain, the men finished 12th for their 5th tournament in a row, losing to Samoa 17-12.

Ravens Through to Final Ravens 24 – UBC 13: Report by Peter MacDonald

For the third year in a row the Ravens were hosting a BC semi-final at Jericho and, having failed to advance in the previous two, hopes were high that it would be third time lucky. On a wet day against a confident UBC side the Ravens were put to the test but they prevailed and will head off to the final for the first time since 2019.

Canada Defeat USA 50-7 to Start Pacific Four Campaign: Next Stop Australia on May 11th

It was a comprehensive win for Canada in LA although close at the half 17-7. It almost guarantees Canada a top 3 finish in the Pacific Four and a spot in the WXV 1 tournament they’re hosting later this year.

BC Rugby Weekend of April 27th 2024

BC Premier Semi-Final Results & Rosters: Ravens and Meraloma Advance to Final – Complete Semi-Final Results for All Divisions

It’s semi-finals weekend with 16 matches in 8 divisions. In men’s Premier it’s #1 Ravens and #2 Lomas looking to book their ticket to the finals with #5 UBC and #6 Westshore looking for the upsets. In women’s Premier it’s #1 UBC and #2 Westshore hosting #4 Capilano and #3 CW.

The weekend wrapped up with the higher ranked teams winning 13 of the 16 matches. The finals are next weekend in Burnaby. Clubs represented on finals day are Ravens (2), Lomas (2), UBC (2), Comox (2), Westshore, Burnaby, Rowers, Abbotsford, United, Squamish, Kamloops, Chilliwack.
