BC Rugby Announces Changes to PRC Tournament and Selection of BC U19 and U17 Coaches For This Summer

A couple of recent announcments from the BCRU this week. They’re changing the Provincial Regional Championships (PRCs) to make it a higher level competition. They’re reducing the competition to 4 regions, basically Island, Vancouver, Valley, Interior. In previous years each region would put in multiple teams from sub-regions diluting the talent from each region. In order to facilitate full participation and create a selection tool they’ve created a new tournament, the PRL (Provincial Regional League) which would include the sub-regions within the regions. It will also act as a selection tool for the PRC teams. The PRL takes place in June and the PRC in July.

On a cold, wet, windy day at Connaught the two west side clubs gathered at midfield for a moment’s silence to honour long time Meraloma member Chas Teeple who recently passed away. Chas was a skilled flyhalf, a class guy and a lover of rugby and of the camaraderie that surrounds it. I recall watching him play in the late 1960s when he led the St Georges backline and later when he manned the #10 jersey with the Lomas. Looking around the sidelines at the game on Saturday there were Bobby Brown and referee assessor on the day Al Hudson who were Chas’s teammates and friends back in the day. Raven Rick Bourne was a high school rival and later a friend. There’s a long BC rugby through line from those days to today.

MLR 2025 – Round 4

MLR Round 4 with 24 Canadians in Action: San Diego Only Undefeated Team Tops West Conference and Chicago Tops East Conference

There were 24 Canadians in action this weekend in MLR, 13 starting and 11 in the reserves. San Diego remains the only undefeated team and tops the West Conference, Chicago tops the East Conference.

A full schedule this weekend in the BC Premier with all 10 teams in action. There’s only 4 weekends of matches in the regular season after this weekend, the playoff picture will start to get clearer after this round of matches.

MLR 2025 – Round 3

San Diego and Utah Only Undefeated Teams – 23 Canadians in Rosters, 10 Starting, 13 Reserves – Canadian Referees Listed

MLR Round 3 saw 23 Canadian players in the rosters, 10 starting and 13 in the reserves. Lucas Rumball made the MLR Team of the Week. San Diego is the only team at 3-0 and Utah are the only other undefeated team at 2-0. Canadian referees have an important role in MLR as well, below is a list of Canadian referees participating in the MLR this season.
