BC Rugby Weekend of February 7th 2026

BC Premier Week 13 Results: Caps Upset UVic, Burnaby Fall to Ravens, Lomas Lose to Westshore, Bays Clobber CW; Exhibition TWU Trounced by Pride, Cal Bears Maul UBC – Women’s Premier Lomas Defeat Westshore, Seattle Crushed by CW, Burnaby Beat Ravens

It’s getting down to the last third of the season, most teams have 5 games left with 12 played. Burnaby and Lomas only have 4 games left and UVic and UBC have 6 games left. CW and Lomas are effectively eliminated from post season play and only UVic now has a chance to catch the top 6 going to the playoffs. In women’s Premier the Lomas show they’re deserving of the #1 ranking, impressive considering they’ve come up from Div 1 last year. There’s no rugby next weekend, Family Day weekend, but play resumes February 21st.

Premier Women’s Rugby – February 2026 – Round 9

Update on the English Premier Women’s Rugby (PWR) Round 9 – Ten Canadians in Action

The PWR restarted their season after the winter break and there were 10 Canadians in action over 5 teams. The Saracens with a large Canadian contingent had a bye this week and several players such as Fancy Bermudez, Olivia Apps, Sabrina Poulin are with the 7s team on the Singapore and Perth tournaments. Missing from the lineups were some high profile players Alex Tessier and Julia Schell. Chloe Daniels made her first appearance after signing with the Bristol Bears. The results, standings and this weekend’s matches are listed below.

RWC 2027 – February 2026 Updates

World Rugby Announces Rugby World Cup 2027 Schedule: Match Schedule, Venue, Ticket Information

World Rugby have announced the schedule for the men’s Rugby World Cup in Australia for 2027. For travelling Canadian fans that means landing in Brisbane for a match on Monday, October 4th 2027 against Argentina, then getting to Adelaide, about a 22 hour drive away, for a Sunday, October 10th match against Fiji, and finally a trip north to Townsville, about a 28 hour drive, for a Saturday, October 16th match against Spain. Alternatively you could pay about $300+ per hop and fly to each destination although it will be interesting to see what prices are like come October 2027. Ravens Play to Their Strength for Late Win Ravens 24 – UBC 23

On a wet day at UBC it was another great game between these two fraternal clubs and it was the big brother that came away with the win despite being clearly outplayed for the first 60 minutes.

When UBC centre Alistair Marshall from first phase ball easily passed through the Raven backfield at 3 minutes to score from 40 metres out UBC took a lead they did not relinquish till the game’s last second. Then, with the Ravens’ Jake Ikeda off on a yellow card, UBC at 15 minutes tallied again with Stephen Webb stepping in and wrestling the ball down from close range, 12-0 UBC. The students’ fitness, speed, structure and ball movement had the Ravens stretched and taking on water but with Joe McNulty off on a yellow the Ravens had a moment of sustained attacking pressure and hooker Jake Tieney dove in, and with the easy conversion missed it was 12-5 UBC at 25 minutes.

Kamloops Rugby Updates – January 2026

Kamloops Match Reports by William Shaw: Raiders Split Games in Coquitlam, Women Defeat United, Men Lose Their Match

With a double game vs United for both Senior Raider teams, the squads left Kamloops at 5:45 am for Town Center Park, Coquitlam.

The ladies kicked off to the hosting United in rainy, grey conditions. The wet conditions hampered the hosts, and the Raiders were able to regain possession. The Raider forwards moved the ball cleanly between them and with strong carries from Thea Flundra and Lindsay Stobbe, the Raiders were breaking the gain line. The United scrumhalf showed her pace early and often throughout the game, causing problems for both KRC scrum halves, while United showed great pace off the defensive line.

Singapore SVNS – 2026

Canada Claim Bronze in Singapore With Win Over USA: Claim 4th Place in Overall Standings

Canada finished 3rd in Singapore, their best finish of the season, with two previous 6th place finishes. The addition of players from the PWR, especially Olivia Apps, helped raise their level of performance. They’re still a ways behind NZ and Australia who contested for the final with NZ coming out on top. Canada lost their semi-final to Australia 35-10 but defeated USA 24-19 in the Bronze medal match. That win vaults Canada into 4th in the standings from 7th previously. Next up is Perth and Canada have the same pool opponents, Australia, France, Great Britain.

BC Rugby Weekend of January 31st 2026

BC Premier Week 12 Results: Burnaby 24 – CW 12, Pride 26 – Lomas 26, Ravens 25 – UBC 24, UVic 40 – Westshore 19, Bays 39 – Caps 17; Women’s Premier Thunderbirds 27 – Ravens 10,  Burnaby 22 – CW 14, Westshore 94 v Seattle 0, Lomas 61 – Abby 0

The Ravens have gone top of the table with a comeback win over UBC combined with a Westshore loss to the Vikes. The Vikes and Bays both won which keeps the race for 6th place, the final  playoff spot, within a fraction, the Vikes at 2.8 points per match and the Bays at 2.73. Each team has a 17 game schedule so most teams have 6 games left to determine their final standing, Burnaby and Lomas have 5 games left, UVic has 7.

Rugby Canada Pathways – January 2026

Rugby Canada Announces Women’s XVs Pathway: BC Left with Invitation Camps, no Competitions

Rugby Canada announced its pathway process to the women’s XVs team and BC may have been left out in the cold. Ontario/Quebec have a recognized competition with 13 games, 10 indoor, 3 outdoor. Alberta have a 4 game competition, all indoors. The only province where you can play rugby in February/March outdoors, BC, gets 4 camps, no competitions. Three of the camps are on a Sunday and one on a Saturday in conflict with the women’s BC Premier schedule. The level of disrespect is palpable. With so many new faces coming through the Rugby Canada high performance management team, its difficult to know where the decision making on this rests.

Former Canada 7s Player Jordan Kozina Loses Home and Possessions in Fire – GoFundMe Setup

A sad story today about a former Canada sevens player (World Cup 2009) , Jordan Kozina, who had his home burn down before the holidays and besides losing all his possessions, also lost his two dogs who had been long time companions. As well as representing Canada he also was a player at UVic and represented Ontario and his home club Brantford Harlequins. His sister set up a GoFundMe page to help Jordan get back on his feet, this is the link. The GoFundMe article and some of Jordan’s rugby accomplishments are listed below.

Rugby in the BC Interior – Trail RFC

Reviving the Trail Rugby Football Club – Cory Walker’s Story

I love this story on several levels, raising the profile of rugby in BC, growing it outside the traditional mainland/island areas and featuring in a company in-house publication. Cory played at Velox/Westshore and when he moved to Trail he worked to revive the rugby club. He works at Teck Metals (part of Teck Resources) and they ran the story in their in-house publication “After Ours” and we’ve reprinted it below.
