UBCOB Ravens Visit Mexico; MacDowell Rugby to Germany; Madrid 7s Pools Announced; Francois Ratier and Stade Bordelais in France Elite Semi-Finals

A few destinations around the world that caught my eye involving Canadian teams and players. The UBCOB Ravens just returned from playing the Mexico National XVs team, MacDowell Rugby are travelling to Germany in June, the Madrid 7s pools were announced and Francois Ratier and his Stade Bordelais team are in the France Elite league playoffs.

UBCOB Ravens

The Ravens travelling team lost to the Mexico National XVs team 20-19 on a penalty kick at the whistle. There were only two players listed in the travelling roster from the Ravens BC Premier championship team, Aaron McLelland and Nick Blain, and six players from the Ravens Premier Reserve championship team. Other notable names include Sean Ferguson lacing up the boots again, Isaac Gonevou from JBAA,  and Alipate Yagomate from Nanaimo.

MacDowell Rugby Academy

The MacDowell Academy are headed over to the Heidelberg 7s tournament in June. They have a full schedule with Germany in June, Utah in July, Kamloops in September, Mexico in October and NZ in December. Details in the Facebook posts below.

Madrid 7s

The pools for the Madrid 7s were released and it’s looking tough for the men’s 7s team who have to finish in the top 4 to remain on the series next season. They’re in a pool with USA, Uruguay and Germany, the fixtures haven’t been released yet but we’re guessing they’ll have to finish top 2 in their pool to advance. The women are in the championship tournament, no relegation involved, but a chance to win the title. They are in a pool with USA, NZ and Great Britain.

Francois Ratier and Stade Bordelais

Stade Bordelais are through to the France Elite semi-finals with a 46-13 win over Lyon , they’ll face Blagnac in the semis. In the other semi are Toulouse and ASM Clermont. Francois went over to coach Stade Bordelais last year, they are defending France Elite champions.  The Canadian players on the team include Magali Harvey, Fabiola Forteza, Justine Pelletier, Gaby Senft, Sarah-Maude Lachance. Best wishes to Francois and the team.
