Champions were crowned across 10 Divisions following a record weekend of action at the 2024 BC Rugby Kamloops 7s at MacArthur Island Park.
Over 120 teams competed 307 matches across the September 21-22 weekend as the largest youth Rugby 7s tournament in Canada returned to the nation’s Tournament Capital.
The event attracted U14, U16 and U18 Boys and Girls teams from Vancouver Island to Saskatchewan and ultimately saw a 25% increase in participation compared to 2023. Supporters and spectators turned out in force to enjoy a festival atmosphere on Kamloops’ northern shore.
With BC Bears 7s Coaches in attendance, this was a chance for British Columbia’s best young Rugby 7s talent to impress with upcoming trips to New Zealand and the 2025 Canada Summer Games in mind.
BC Rugby acknowledges that the 2024 Kamloops 7s was held on the unceded Secwépemc territory, situated in the southern interior of British Columbia within the traditional lands of the Secwépemc Nation.
The event officially started on Saturday with a traditional welcome song and prayer from Hank Gott, Tk’emlúps te Secwe̓pemc Elder.
Over 180 matches followed in a pulsating first day’s action as teams frantically fought to put themselves in contention for Sunday’s Play-Off matches. The action concluded as 10 Divisional champions were crowned on a busy second day, with athletes leaving clutching the gold medals and much-desired bragging rights – until 2025 at least.
The purpose of the Kamloops 7s tournament is to foster the growth of Age-Grade Rugby throughout British Columbia and solidify the Rugby 7s pathway, while also serving as a lead into the Age-Grade Club XVs Season, which starts next weekend on September 29!
BC Rugby will be releasing a full 2024Kamloops 7s Photo Gallery and Match Videos this week – keep your eyes peeled on our social media channels!
We gratefully acknowledge the financial support of the Province of British Columbia.
