MLR 2020 – Week 12

MLR Week Twelve Results: Austin, Atlanta, San Diego, New England and Utah with Wins: Top Four Teams LA and Utah in West; Atlanta and NY in East

It’s 3 more weeks before teams will lose their national team players as they jostle for the top two positions in the East and West.

In the East it’s Atlanta and New York holding onto the playoff spots with New England and New Orleans still in the hunt. New York and New Orleans still have 6 games left while Atlanta and New England are down to 5 games left.

In the West LA and Utah are in the playoff positions with Austin and San Diego in the hunt. LA have 6 games left while the other teams are down to 5 chances to catch the top team.

*MLR Week Twelve: Two Saturday Matches Austin @ Houston; Atlanta @ NOLA – Three Sunday Matches San Diego @ Toronto; DC @ New England; Utah @ Seattle*

There are two Saturday matches and three Sunday matches as MLR is well into the second half of the season. The USA have announced their 30 man travelling roster for their July matches versus England and Ireland. There are 22 players from MLR on the tour with 9 set to earn their first cap.

Austin @ Houston 5pm PT Saturday

Cole Davis gets the start for Austin with Reegan O’Gorman in the Reserves at second row. Houston have four Canadians in the match 23, only one starting, Lucas Albornoz at second row. Albornoz wasn’t named to the extended squad for the July Tests. On the bench are Liam Murray, Nik Hildebrand and Rob Povey.

Atlanta @ NOLA 5:30pm PT Saturday

NOLA are missing their usual Canadian forwards Eric Howard and Kyle Baillie. Lockie Kratz is in the Reserves for the backs. Atlanta have Conor Keys on the Reserves at second row, Matt Heaton is given a rest and not in the match 23.

San Diego @ Toronto 9am PT Sunday

Toronto start a number of players named to the Canada extended squad for the July Tests versus Wales and England. Cole Keith, Andrew Quattrin and Tyler Rowland are the front row. Mike Sheppard, who wasn’t selected , teams up with Paul Ciulini, who was selected, in the second row. Loose forwards Mason Flesch #6 and Lucas Rumball #7 round out the Canadian forwards. At scrum half Jason Higgins gets the start with Ross Braude subbing in, Will Kelly is in the Reserves at #10. Spencer Jones and Ben LeSage are the centre pairing. For San Diego, Michael Smith gets the start at openside.

DC @ New England 3pm PT Sunday

For DC it’s an all Canadian centre pairing of Ciaran Hearn and Doug Fraser. Hearn wasn’t on Canada’s extended list, Fraser was.

Utah @ Seattle 5pm PT Sunday

Utah features Fraser Hurst in a backup scrum half role. He’s hoping to get one of the spots on the Canada side travelling to the UK, he’s on the extended list. Seattle has on Canadian starter, Djustice Sears-Duru at loosehead prop. Jake Ilnicki is reserve tighthead prop and George Barton is on the Reserves in the backs.
