MLR Week Six 2021

MLR Week 6 Wrapup: LA Remains Undefeated; Toronto Tops East; Robbie Povey BCRN Canadian Player of the Week; Canada-Eligible Starters Drop to 16 (8.8%) in Week Six from 24 (13.3%) in Week One

LA continues to march on as the only undefeated side. Toronto had a strong match to go 3-3 on the season and share top spot in the East with Atlanta at 16 points.

BC Grassroots Rugby and Thunder Indigenous Rugby Sign MOU to Promote Youth Rugby in BC

Two organizations focused on youth rugby in BC have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to work together to promote youth rugby in BC.

Both organizations have former Canada national team players of Indigenous heritage in leadership positions. Phil Mack of the Toquaht Nation represented Thunder rugby and Clay Panga of Maori descent represented Grassroots Rugby at the signing.Continue reading

Three Candidates Vying for One Spot on World Rugby Executive Committee Including Canadian Cristina Flores

MLR Week Five 2021

MLR Week 5 Results: Arrows Smite Seawolves; NOLA Edge Past New England; San Diego Tip Warriors; LA Remain Undefeated; Austin Defeat Atlanta; New York Beat DC

LA continue to roll as the only undefeated team. Toronto came up big this weekend and put the boots to Seattle who are floundering this season. New York continued their winning ways and Quinn Ngawati scored his second try of the season. Four of the games were decided by 4 points or less.

What’s the Latest on the John Tait Situation with Rugby Canada and the Women’s 7s Team

Back on February 5th Rugby Canada dropped a bombshell on the rugby community with the announcement that they were putting in a “temporary” coaching team for the women’s 7s program pending an investigation. The temporary coach would be Sandro Fiorino, the women’s XVs coach, and the Olympic coach would be Australian Mick Byrne. The press release was vague and left current coach, John Tait, twisting in the wind. Although the press release didn’t mention him by name, the question in everyone’s mind was why was John Tait being relieved of the coaching position.
