MORAGA, Calif. Playing the No. 3-ranked Saint Mary’s Gaels, Trinity Western lost 45-10 Saturday afternoon at Saint Mary’s Stadium.
One point to come out of the Men’s University Championships is that UBC are in a class of their own in Canadian University Rugby. They amassed a +116 point differential over the three rounds to win the title for the 4th time in 5 years. They defeated McGill 48-5 in the 60 minute match and took their foot off the gas for the last 20 when they were ahead 41-0.

The two BC teams, UBC and UVic, came close to advancing but weren’t clinical enough at key times. UBC lost by a point to Guelph, in a game they had plenty of opportunities to win. UBC scored 5 tries but couldn’t convert any of them while Guelph scored 4 tries and converted 3 of them. UVic almost created the upset of the tournament as #8 facing #1, they scored 2 tries but were unable to convert either, while Queen’s scored 1 try which they converted and added two penalties.

VANCOUVER The UBC Thunderbirds fell in their home opener 30-14 to the University of Victoria Vikes at the Gerald McGavin UBC Rugby Centre in the first leg of the historic Wightman Boot series between the longstanding provincial rivals.
The USport women’s rugby season has kicked off and this year the fall championship tournament is in Victoria, from November 2nd to November 6th.

LANGLEY, B.C. Trinity Western men’s rugby star Tamilore Awonusi (Dublin, Ireland) has been selected to represent Ireland for the upcoming HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series double-header in Spain.
The UBC Thunderbirds hoisted the trophy at the end of the Canadian University Men’s Rugby Championship (CUMRC) after defeating the Victoria Vikes 39-7 in the Gold Medal Game.
