Phil’s Volume 2 Issue 10 covers a couple of upsets Collingwood over St. George’s and Claremont over Oak Bay. The Island finals are this week at Shawnigan. I just looked at the SLS Instagram page and they are Island champions, no score given but they defeated Claremont who are Island 2nd. Phil’s Volume 2 Issue 8 covers the St. George’s v Collingwood match, SMUS v Brentwood, Oak Bay v Royal Bay and the Port Alberni tour to Wales. Phil’s provincial rankings seem more up to date than the BCSS rankings which come out mid-week. Both have St. George’s #1 but Phil goes Shawnigan, Collingwood, Robert Bateman, Oak Bay after that. The BCSS doesn’t have the St. George’s v Collingwood result factored in and have Collingwood, Robert Bateman, Shawnigan, Oak Bay as #2 to #5.

Phil’s Volume 2 Issue 7 covers the match between St. George’s v Shawnigan. These two schools are perennial finalists in the AAA division. St. George’s claimed a narrow win on home ground. Some other cross-region matches Phil covers are Oak Bay v Earl Marriott and SMUS v Carson Graham. Two teams that went up from AA to AAA this year Collingwood and Robert Bateman also went head to head and Phil has that report. BC School Sports has started putting out their rugby XVs rankings and we’ve appended them below.

BCRU Updates – March 2026

BCRU Announce U17 and U19 Provincial Coaches for Summer Tours; Announce PRC Venue & Dates

The BCRU have announced their Provincial coaches for the U17 and U19 teams heading to Ontario this summer. All four teams will head to Ontario from July 18-26. The U19 Men and Women will compete in the Canadian Rugby Championships. The U17 Boys and Girls will compete the O’Neill’s Challenge Cup which was started last year as a Ontario v BC competition at the U17  level. Also the regional PRCs will take place July 4th and 5th in Abbotsford for U15, U17, U19 regional teams.

The 3rd issue of Phil’s newsletter covering boys XVs rugby on Vancouver Island. In 7s last week GP Vanier claimed the Westshore Secondary 7s titles in senior boys, senior girls and junior girls. Cowichan’s Quw’utsun claimed the junior boys title. St. George’s junior XV are in Scotland/England during the spring break. Thunder Indigenous rugby are sending boys and girls U18 XVs teams to a tournament in Portugal. Robert Bateman is touring to NZ and Australia. Shawnigan is going to France. ADSS (Port Alberni) going to the UK. If you know of other youth teams touring during spring break, add them to the comments section.
