The BCRU have announced changes to the schedule for the BC Bears U16 and U18 teams necessitated by the withdrawal of the girls Eagle Impact Rugby Academy (EIRA) teams who were to visit BC.
MacDowell Rugby have an ambitious schedule this year which provides a great opportunity for U18 and U16 players to get noticed and on the high performance pathway.
The high school championships have wrapped up for another year with St. George’s claiming the Boys AAA title with a close 15-10 win over Shawnigan. Collingwood defeated Robert Bateman 24-5 in AA. In Girls AAA it was Gleneagle 21-0 over Yale, in AA DW Poppy defeated Shawnigan 56-7. In Tier 2 Boys it was DW Poppy defeating McNair in the final 29-14.
West Van were dominant in the boys 7s tournament, defeating Stelly’s, last year’s champions, 38-0 in the final. Stelly’s were 2nd and Kelowna Christian were 3rd.
The latest Rugby XVs rankings for the AAA and AA schools are out and show some changes from the previous rankings.

The BC High School Rugby season is in full swing but unfortunately, unlike before, there’s not a central collection point for scores and matches. The bcssru.com used to provide that info but BC School Sports has taken over all sports and they don’t publish upcoming matches or results. They provide Provincials information but that’s about it. They actually started doing a ranking for Ultimate Frisbee, but haven’t started one for rugby yet. You may want to contact them to find out why. Their Twitter account is @BCSchoolSports
‘BC Friends of Rugby’ is a group of passionate rugby people who are trying to give back and help grow our sport. This group is led by Eddie Evans, Mark Reid, Morris DeCotiis and John Middleton. They are involved in a number of plans to help support our sport of rugby.

Three Canadian teams claimed titles at the Tropical 7s in 2024. MacDowell Rugby won the senior women’s title, the Oakville Crusaders won the Boys U18 Elite title and Rugby Quebec won the U16 Girls Open title. Congratulations to the players and coaches.
