UBCOB Ravens – March 2022

Ravens Fall on Last Play: UBC 27 – Ravens 26

by Peter MacDonald

This much anticipated game started off with a bang, actually three bangs, as tries lit up the scoreboard one after the other in the first few minutes. The UBC kickoff went straight out leading to a scrum centre to the Old Boys. From there fullback Aaron McLelland sped through a hole on the right side and fed it back inside to scrum half Alex Ball for a try in the first minute. UBC shook that off a second later when, after the UBC kickoff, flanker Owen Ruttan blocked a clearing kick and Frank Carson chased it down, picked up and touched down for a very quick reply. And, not long after that, UBC added another try as scrum half Jack Carson got away and, keeping it in the family, sent flanker Donald Carson in for the try, 12-7 UBC at 8 minutes.

Burnaby Retain Palmer Cup with 3 Out of 4 Wins vs Meraloma: Match Reports and Videos

from Mike Devlin

The Palmer Cup is dedicated to the late, great Burnaby Lake Alum Doug “The Bear” Palmer. Doug tragically passed away in France while on tour with the guys, cheering on Canada at the 1999 World Cup. The Bear also had an affiliation to the Meraloma Rugby Club. The results of the regular season games between Burnaby Lake and Meraloma are tallied to crown the winner. The club with the most wins takes the cup. After almost a decade of dominance by the Lomas, the BLRC have had possession of the Palmer Cup since 2011. The results from the Fall season matches saw the BLRC up 2 wins to 1 draw, meaning that the first Blue + White win of the day would retain the Palmer Cup via tie while a 2nd would win the Palmer Cup and return it to the BLRC trophy case. Burnaby Lake took 3 out of 4 on the day.
