BC Premier Regional Week 5 Results: Pride Edge Vikes in Friday Night Match; UBC Overpower TWU, Bays Defeat Westshore, Burnaby Top Lomas, Rowers Upset Ravens, Caps Clobber Seattle

Week 5 of the BC Premier Regional competition is in the books. On the Island, the Bays claimed the Barnard Cup. Westshore and CW will battle next week to determine the runner up. In the Coastal Cup it’s all to play for between the Pride and UBC next weekend. The Pride are at 4-1 (20 pts) and UBC are 3-2 (16 pts). On the Mainland, teams take next week off in preparation for BC Premier Week 1 on October 29th.

BC Rugby Weekend of October 1st 2022

BC Premier Regional Week 4 Results: Pride Trounce TWU; UBC Upset UVic, Bays Pound CW; Caps Top Burnaby; Ravens Fly Past Lomas; Rowers Paddle Seattle

Week 4 has wrapped up. In the Barnard Cup, the Bays can be announced as winners even though there’s two weeks left in the competition, their 3-0 record with 14 points is beyond the reach of CW and Westshore. Congrats to them. In the Coastal Cup it’s still a battle with the Pride at 3-1 leading, UVic and UBC at 2-2 and TWU at 1-3. On the mainland the Ravens (4-0) continue as the only undefeated side. A reminder there’s no Premier action next weekend, Thanksgiving weekend. Action resumes October 15th.

BC Premier Regional Week 3 Results: UBC Topple TWU, Pride Upset UVic, CW and Westshore Draw, Seattle Edge Lomas, Burnaby Fall to Ravens, Rowers and Caps Draw

There were two draws this week, and a couple of return to form performances from UBC and Pacific Pride, the Ravens continue to roll and Seattle notch a road win.

BC Rugby Weekend of September 17th 2022

BC Premier Regional Week 2: TWU Upset Pride, Vikes Blast T-Birds, Ravens Soar Past Seattle, Burnaby Sink Rowers, Caps Edge Lomas; Bays Outlast Westshore

Again a brief reminder of the regional aspect of the Premier matches, on the Island they’re playing for the Barnard Cup (CW, JBAA, Westshore) which was first awarded in 1911, the Academies/Universities are playing for the Coastal Cup (UBC, UVic, TWU, Pride), the Mainland teams are doing their thing, there was a Mainland Cup, but some teams are treating the 6 week regional as a Premier warm-up season.

BC Win Canada Summer Games Gold in Rugby 7s: Outscoring Opponents 232-17 Over 3-Day Tournament

BC dominated at the Canada Summer Games Rugby 7s winning the Gold medal final 38-0 over Quebec. In the Bronze match Ontario defeated Nova Scotia 20-15.

The BC Club finals are this weekend hosted by Bayside at South Surrey Athletic Park. There are four men’s titles on the line this Saturday and three women’s titles.

On a good day for rugby at Jericho some hopes were fulfilled and others dashed as the prems’ hearts were broken at the end and the Rippers secured a victory late in the game with a stunning interception while Abby was on the boil and the Rips down to 13 men.

Ravens Move On: Ravens 19 – Rowers 10

After another long layoff rugby resumed at Jericho with the #2 seed Ravens hosting the #7 seed Rowers in a quarterfinal matchup. The Ravens, missing a few of its leading players through injury and for personal reasons, were fortunate to get the win as it was a hard fought even game that definitely could have turned out differently. It was not a Picasso but a win is a win as they say.

BC Premier Weekend Results: Quarter-Finals Ravens Edge Rowers; UBC Dominate Lomas; CW Rout UVic; Capilano Power Past Burnaby

UBCOB Ravens 19 v Vancouver Rowing Club 10 @ 14:30

Venue: Jericho Beach Park

Ravens won but it was a lot closer than the +18 we predicted. The Ravens without Aaron McLelland, David O’Donoghue and Brian Moylett didn’t put up the points we expected. The Rowers may have upped their game on defence, we’ll wait for Peter MacDonald’s report to hear his insights. It sets up a Ravens v CW semi-final match at Jericho. Ravens narrowly won that match in the regular season.
