Premier Men by Steve Feenstra
The contest between the T-Birds and Caps turned out to be a thriller that had a bit of everything. Hard hits, shifty side line running, bad tempers, a thirty- or forty-minute delay in the first half and a deluge in the second half. Something for everybody.
Only 3 Premier matches this weekend with 2 on the Island. The Mainland game should be a good one, UBC host Capilano. Seattle come back into the schedule on March 12th, it will be interesting to see how they adjust the playoff picture with Seattle only playing 4 games, 2 home and 2 away.
It’s a bye weekend for most leagues, including the men’s Premier but there are some make up matches. The feature one being the women’s Premier Capilano v Westshore.

A beautiful day for rugby at Burnaby Lake on Saturday saw 3 games played, The 2 mens games were as close as could be with each side claiming a W and the margin of victories being one and two points, while the women overwhelmed their opposition in a one sided affair to start the day. With such evenly matched clubs, the Mens winner on the day was to be decided by the post-game boat race but that ended in a tie.

Another nice day, another big squad rotation and another win for the Ravens though it was UVic that likely enjoyed their rugby the most and earned the greater admiration from the crowd on the day. But the Ravens got it done early and got it done late and held on at the end for another five points.

All the men’s BC Premier matches are at 2:30pm Saturday, the full BCRU schedule is here. The women’s CanWest 7s Round 2 is also on this weekend at UVic, the schedule is here. The Toronto Arrows host LA Giltinis Friday evening at Starlight Stadium.

Two of British Columbias oldest sporting organizations will renew a rivalry that started in 1908 this Saturday, February 12th.

A good crowd was out on a pleasant afternoon at the Lomas Connaught Park to take in the latest round in the longstanding rivalry between the two Kitsilano based clubs. The early season form of both clubs was unclear going in so this game was of interest to help assess the current state of affairs in the two clubs. While the game might not have been a Picasso, a lot was likely learned by all.
