Tropical 7s – 2025

Canadian Teams Claim 6 Titles at Tropical 7s

There were 6 Canadian teams who claimed titles at the Tropical 7s in Tampa over the Easter Weekend. MacDowell Rugby women claimed the senior elite title for the 2nd year in a row. The Vancouver Island Crimson Tide U16 girls won the open title. The Niagara Rugby Union claimed a double in the U16 girls elite and the U18 girls open. The Eastern Ontario Rugby Union won the boys U16 open and the Oshawa Vikings won the U23 women.

BC Friends of Rugby Offering Twelve $1500 Scholarships: Apply Now

The BC Friends of Rugby are offering 12 scholarships of $1500 to BC graduating high school players. The announcement of recipients is typically made at the high school finals, so apply now before it’s too late.

BC High School Rugby – April 2025

Feature on Collingwood Rugby: Match vs Carson Graham on Saturday, Return from NZ/AUS Tour

It’s always interesting to learn about the BC high school programs, their history and who is leading the programs now. Collingwood just returned from a successful tour to New Zealand and Australia over the spring break. This was their 17th tour and they took 57 players, a junior U16 team and a 1st XV and 2nd XV at the senior level.

Community Rugby Updates: Thunder Indigenous Rugby Celebration Recognizes Pacific Pride as Coastal Cup Winners, Phil Mack Indigenous Player of the Year Award, Thunder Youth Touring to NZ; BC Youth Groups Touring Over Spring Break

Thunder Rugby was a program started in 2013 to promote the sport of rugby to Indigenous youth, to give youth the opportunity to experience west coast Indigenous culture and to experience rugby and Indigenous culture world wide through rugby tours.

Comox Rapids U18 Girls in Scotland

The Comox Valley U18 girls team, the Rapids, are currently touring northern England and Scotland and doing quite well. They defeated  Northern RFC, based in Newcastle, 24-22 in their first match. They then defeated Borders 59-5 in Melrose, Scotland and are finishing their tour up in Edinburgh. You can follow their tour on their Instagram account.

BC Youth Rugby Updates – March 2025

BC Rugby Announces Changes to PRC Tournament and Selection of BC U19 and U17 Coaches For This Summer

A couple of recent announcments from the BCRU this week. They’re changing the Provincial Regional Championships (PRCs) to make it a higher level competition. They’re reducing the competition to 4 regions, basically Island, Vancouver, Valley, Interior. In previous years each region would put in multiple teams from sub-regions diluting the talent from each region. In order to facilitate full participation and create a selection tool they’ve created a new tournament, the PRL (Provincial Regional League) which would include the sub-regions within the regions. It will also act as a selection tool for the PRC teams. The PRL takes place in June and the PRC in July.
