Thunder Rugby Holds Three Camps to Identify Indigenous Athletes for NZ 2022 Tour

Last week I travelled with the Thunder Indigenous program to document their youth camps in Shawnigan Lake, Capilano and Abbotsford. The tour was supposed to continue to Kamloops and Prince George but with the wildfires closing down the Coquihalla Highway earlier that week and the air quality index a concern, the decision was made to cancel the last two stops. It turned out to be a moot point as the truck carrying the coaches and equipment broke down on the 4 lane highway between Vancouver and Abbotsford. The truck decided it wasn’t going any further than Abbotsford anyway.

Canada v USA RWCQ – 2021

Ardron and Olmstead Looking Doubtful as Canada Prepare for Match in St. John’s

We had a call into camp HQ today and what we heard wasn’t the most encouraging news for Canadian rugby fans. It appears as if Tyler Ardron and Evan Olmstead won’t be leaving Europe to join the team in St. John’s, Newfoundland. This would apply to others plying their trade in Europe as well such as Tyler Duguid and perhaps Will Percillier. There’s still some negotiation ongoing with Percillier’s club but it’s wait and see on that.

BC Rugby Outlines Fall Season and Key Dates

[ed. This schedule does not include the Coastal Cup, the high level regional men’s competition starting September 25th.]

The Age-Grade Fall season will properly get underway at the Kamloops 7s over the Thanksgiving weekend and build to the Regional Championships, while Senior Club leagues will start October 16 and run for eight weeks ahead of a fully-competitive Spring season.

Pacific Pride Updates – August 2021

Pacific Pride Program Requires Local Short-Term Housing Support

The venerable Pride program is shaking off COVID and preparing for the upcoming season.

With players coming from across the country and a very tight rental market, it is taking time to find suitable accommodation to house groups of players. We are calling on supporters in the hope that we can find short-term accommodation for individual players.

Rugby Canada Announce Women’s XVs Schedule for November: Four Matches in Colorado (x2), London, Cardiff

Rugby Canada is excited to announce four key fixtures beginning in November that will see Canada’s National Senior Women’s 15s face the USA, Wales and world No. 1 England as they continue preparations for the rescheduled Rugby World Cup in October 2022.

Introducing BC’s New “High-Performance” Competition and An Interview with Curry Hitchborn

We did a follow up interview with Curry Hitchborn on what was happening with “high-performance” rugby in BC, that interview is below. First some editorial observations, the BCRU, like Rugby Canada, is in some disarray right now. Aaron Takel who was the high-performance lead on the men’s side has left the BCRU to pursue a teaching career at Collingwood HS, we wish him all the best.
