Canada Announce Long List of 40 Players for July Tests: Travelling Roster Announcement Mid-June

Rugby Canada announced the men’s Canada XVs long list (40 players) for the July tests in a very muted manner. The article originally wasn’t even on the front page just as a list under the men’s XVs program. The list wasn’t alphabetical but seemed to be listed in order of position. My guess is it came from the coach without any media interpretation which may be useful in getting an insight into Kingsley Jones’ thinking on selection.

MLR Week Eleven

MLR Week 11 Results: New England, San Diego, Atlanta, Utah and New York Winners

Home teams won four of the five matches on the weekend. If the playoffs were this coming week it would be LA and Utah in the West and Atlanta and New York in the East. The Atlanta v LA match, won by 5 points by the home team, Atlanta, may have been a preview of the final at the end of July.

Rugby World Cup 2021 – May Updates

World Rugby Announces Match Schedule for Women’s World Cup in 2022: Opening Match South Africa v France October 8th – Canada’s First Match October 9th vs Asia 1

Canada’s first match in the WRWC will take place Sunday October 9th, 2022 against Asia 1 which is likely to be Japan. Their second match will be Sunday October 16th against Europe 1, likely Ireland or Scotland. The final pool match will be against rivals USA on Sunday October 23rd.

July Tests 2021

USA Name 41 Player Preliminary Roster for July Tests: 75% of Players from MLR Teams

The US have named a 41 player preliminary roster that will be reduced to 30 by late June. It’s a good move and allows the MLR teams to plan early around the disruption of the July tests. Rugby Canada have stated they will release their list by mid-June and whether that’s an extended roster or closer to the travelling 30 man roster, remains to be seen.
