Vancouver Highlanders Update – May 2024

Vancouver Highlanders Announce Schedule; Two Player Announcements Joe Locke from UBCOB Ravens and Saba Shubitidze from Georgia – Reserve Players Added Liam Kinghorn from Calgary and George Wallin from Capilano

The last update we did on the Highlanders was April 22nd and a few things have happened since then, probably the most significant was the release of the schedule with a venue mentioned, Burnaby Lake Rugby Club. Early betting  money was on Klahanie, the Capilano grounds, being the hosting site but the first three match days have been announced as Burnaby Lake Rugby Club. Next item of interest will be ticket prices and any event info peripheral to the rugby matches themselves. The first date is a double header, Canada Selects and Barbados on Friday, June 28th.

Highlanders Add Player #22 Nico Leonard, Three Reserve Players Josh Olver, Siôn Griffiths, Ed Wallin Plus Announce First Two High School Players of the Week Liam Turnbull and Markus Djurickovic

It seems it’s been a while since we’ve update the Highlanders news. With only 2 weeks left in the BC Premier regular season it will soon be Highlander season. Since our last update the Highlanders have selected two High School Players of the Week and announced three more reserve players and Highlander #22.

Vancouver Highlanders Updates – March 2024

Highlander Updates: Lenny Bonduau 19th Signing; Taine Clague Added to Reserves; Canadian Press Writes Article; Barbados Media Covers Signing

The Highlanders announced their 19th signing, Lenny Bonduau, a UBC player who plays fullback or wing. He was on the BC U19 team in 2023, the Canada U18 team in 2022 and was also on the BC High School 7s All Tournament team in the spring of 2022.

Jake Thiel Announced as 18th Signing for Vancouver Highlanders

Jake Thiel has been named as the 18th Vancouver Highlanders signing. Although mostly known for his play on the World Rugby 7s series, Jake was the starting #8 for Canada U20 in 2017 and may again be in contention to claim that spot for the senior men’s XVs. Just turning 27 he’s in his prime for the XVs game.

Alastair Marshall Announced as 17th Signing for Vancouver Highlanders

Alastair Marshall has been named as the 17th Vancouver Highlanders signing. Originally from Hudson Bay, Saskatchewan and the Regina Rogues rugby club he now plays for UBC in the BC Premier. That makes eight current and former UBC players on the Highlanders to date.

Caden Wilson Announced as 16th Signing for Vancouver Highlanders

Caden Wilson has been named as the 16th Vancouver Highlanders signing. Caden is a young second row player who represented Canada at the U20 level in 2023 and 2022 and won a national championship with the BC U19 team in 2022. He currently plays for UBC.

Reid Watkins Vancouver Highlander #15

Reid Watkins Announced as 15th Signing for Vancouver Highlanders

Reid Watkins has been named as the 15th Vancouver Highlanders signing. A talented scrum half who was a key part in the Seattle Seawolves run to the MLR final in 2022. He has played BC Premier with Burnaby since 2017 and was a member of the BC Bears team that won the McTier Cup in 2017. Originally from Okotoks, Alberta he has also has competed  in wrestling at an elite level.
