MacDowell Rugby Academy operating out of Cowichan High School won the Boys U18 Elite competition over the weekend, defeating a team from Okotoks Alberta. In the Girls U18 Elite it was Oak Bay’s Castaway Wanderers who took top honours defeating Abbotsford. What a tour! A party of 42 travelling around the north island of NZ (Aotearoa) for fourteen days in four large vans and a car covering about 1400 km and over 18 hours of driving time. During that time they played six matches (3 for boys, 3 for girls), attended five Powiri (cultural welcoming ceremonies at Marae), attended four high level training sessions. They stayed in two Marae, two motels and were biletted with player families for two nights. They attended three professional matches in the evenings at Eden Park (FIFA semi-final), Mt Smart Stadium (up the wahs!), and Central Energy Trust Stadium (Go Turbos). There were trips to the NZ Rugby Museum, the Auckland Museum, hikes up Mount Maunganui and Maungakiekie.

BC Rugby is delighted to announce the BC Bears U18 and U16 Boys and Girls squads that will represent the province at the 2023 Western Canadian Championships in Calgary, Alberta on August 3-6, 2023.
BC hosted the Pacific Northwest Loggers on the weekend in four matches U16 and U18 Boys and Girls.
Canada defeated Belgium 22-17 but they didn’t make it easy on themselves. Canada gave up three first half tries on the outside plus earned themselves a yellow card for some chippy play off the ball, they were down 17-0 with 10 minutes left in the first half. They were almost down four tries as Belgium ran another one in on the outside but it was called back and a red card given the Belgian player, that was the turning point in the match.

Vancouver, BC: BC Rugbys 2023 Provincial Regional Championships (PRCs) concluded on Sunday following three days of action-packed youth Rugby at UBCs Gerald McGavin Centre, with the Vancouver Island Junior Tide taking four gold medals back to the Island.
Van City Rugby Academy are running two rugby camps this summer.
The coaching staff includes Christiaan Esterhuizen, Mike Hall and Aaron Takel.
The age group is 5-13 years.
The Commonwealth Youth Games were last held in 2017 in the Bahamas. The 2021 games were postponed due to COVID and are taking place this year in Tobago.
The BC Provincial XVs wrapped up today with St. George’s winning the AAA, Collingwood the AA in the boys tournament, and Yale winning the AAA, Shawnigan the AA in the girls tournament.
